History
The 1st Sino-Japan-Korea Symposium of Young Geographers was inaugurated in Beijing in September 2006. Later the Association of Japanese Geographers (AJG) and the Korean Geographical Society (KGS) joined and become the co-sponsors of the Conference. Since then, it has become an annual international conference on geography and has been successfully held in China, Japan, Korea by turn. In 2008 it was renamed China-Japan-Korea Joint Conference on Geography. In 2015, in response to more Asian geographers’ increasing expectations on a broader platform for academic exchange and research collaboration among Asian geographers, initiated by the GSC, the 10th CJK Joint Conference on Geography was upgraded into the 1st Asian Conference on Geography (ACG) and was held successfully in Shanghai, with more than 300 participants from 11 Asian countries and regions. In August 2016, during the 33rd IGC Beijing, the representatives of geographical societies from Asia convened the Forum on Development of Geography and Geographical Societies of Asia to discuss the progress and development of Geography in Asia, and reached an agreement to co-found Asian Geographical Association (AGA) in the near future. In 2016 and 2017, the 2nd ACG and the 3rd ACG were held in Sapporo, Japan and Jeju, Korea respectively. In December 2018, 23 geographical associations across Asia were gathered in Guangzhou and co-founded the AGA during the 4th ACG. In November 2019, the Council Meeting of the AGA was held in Beijing. At present, the number of AGA member societies has reached up to 24. The 5th ACG is scheduled to take place from October 18th -22nd, 2021 in Thai Nguyen, Vietnam.
